John is an SEC accounting and financial reporting specialist with more than 30 years of public accounting and SEC experience, including several years as the national SEC Director and a senior technical partner for BDO and a two-year term as a SEC Professional Accounting Fellow.

He has served on several national technical committees and task forces, including the SEC Regulations Committee for six years and two different FASB Task Forces over a 12 year period. He has been a speaker at numerous professional conferences, including for the SEC Institute.

While he directed the SEC practice for BDO, he was responsible for all aspects of over 100 successful public offerings. In that role, he also co-authored The Guide to SEC Reporting, a 250-page reference published by the AICPA, and prepared extensive, in-depth communications containing guidance and analysis of new regulations and staff policies and positions.

While at the SEC, John led the formulation of numerous SEC staff positions on a wide range of accounting and reporting issues including business combinations, equity instruments, revenue recognition, consolidations and equity method accounting, stock compensation, oil and gas accounting and accounting by public utilities.

Since 1994, John has focused on consulting with accounting firms, public companies and legal counsel on a broad range of financial reporting and SEC issues. He has provided litigation support services and expert testimony to several law firms. In addition, he has been consulted on a variety of transactional and financial reporting issues by the management of public companies and their auditors.

John graduated from Tulane University in 1974 with a BA in history and in 1976 with a MBA in accounting and finance. He lives in West Palm Beach, Florida.
